I had heard ads for this on Annapolis radio and wasn't sure how it was spelled and found it here on beerfly!  Somewhat small and tucked off the road behind a flower shop, I stopped in while making my way to BWI to get my sister. Bar is small, maybe 10 to 12 seats right to the side of the dining area. Decent enough atmosphere, a pastel blue but somewhat sparse. That's fine-just doesn’t grab you, which can be a good thing.

12 taps-all top notch stuff for the most part. The closest thing I saw to a macro was AB's Shock Top, which was selling quite well to the couple next to me. Brewer's Art, Lagunitas, Clipper City's Heavy Seas, Stone, etc as mentioned before. I dove right into the Old Rasputin.  For the area and as small as it is-exceptional in my book. Service was very friendly and attentive-and glad to see me as a first timer!  Would love to try the food but was on a short schedule. I was here about 40 minutes and had a great time. The other patrons and staff were great-I felt like I was in a Cheers episode and I hate Cheers. Great place-wish I lived closer but between going to the airport and the malls in the area with my wife I will be back. Reviewed on: 02-14-2009 03:43:32

We found Lures through What's Up magazine and what a great find! This little gem of a restaurant is right off of Generals Highway and a short distance from Annapolis or I-97. The Rockfish Bites and the Jalapeno Rangoons are a must as a starter; both are awesome. The Kobe Burger, Lures Style, is one of the best hamburgers I've ever had. We, or our friends, have not had anything from the menu that isn't spectacular.

Lures carries an exceptional selection of beers which are on tap! You'll have a tough time going into any restaurant or bar and finding Brewer's Art's Resurrection on tap, but Lures has it! Other beers on tap include: Lagunitas Seasonal and Censored, Stone IPA (awesome beer), Southern Tier, Heavy Seas, Sierra Nevada, Victory Storm King, Oxford Organic Raspberry Wheat (my girlfriend loves this beer), Jills Pils, Beamish Irish Stout, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Sam Adams, Shock Top and Miller Lite for those lacking beer intelligence.  The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, very clean and well lit. They have an outside patio area with propane heaters which is smoker friendly (cigars included if others aren't offended). The patio also features live entertainment Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

The owners were prior managers at a chain restaurant and decided to go on their own and start Lures. They are extremely friendly people who constantly mingle with the patrons. They are also the chefs who create and cook all the food.  In summary, Lures has awesome beer and food and should be the next place you go for dinner and beers.  Reviewed on: 11-08-2008 18:17:29

Visited for the first time in early July. Just minutes from the Annapolis mall, tucked behind a craft/flower shop (used to be Sputnik Cafe). It was an early Saturday afternoon, so the place was a pretty empty (but picked up around 4:30pm).  We talked with the bar manager, he's very enthusiastic about the beer and a friendly guy. I Love the Stone on tap!

Food was good. We also had the seared tuna, yum. But I was super excited that they have grilled German sausage, sauerkraut and perogies on the menu - very good. Apparently they are adding daily specials to the menu like paella and a bison burger. My husband and I LOVED Lures. The food was phenomenal. His tuna steak sandwich was perfectly flavored, and cooked exactly how he wanted it. My crab cake sandwich was ENORMOUS and absolutely delicious. The desserts topped the night. The pumpkin cake and Xango dessert (banana cheesecake wrapped up with dough and fried, then drizzled caramel on top) were heavenly. I highly recommend this restaurant! We will definitely be repeat customers.

Ate there tonight (6/21/08).. I was told they've been open for about a month. The food was original and excellently prepared and presented! The atmosphere was very laid back. Patrons were getting up and singing with the live band that was playing on the patio. It's like the "hip, happening" place that the people who flock to such places haven't discovered yet, so it's still quiet and calm. I wish the Soja family the best of luck on their new venture!

“Scratch3386” Annapolis, MD Jul 23, 2008  “Great New Restaurant”

My friends and I heard there was a new restaurant where the greatly-missed Sputnik Cafe used to be, so we decided to check it out last evening.  Though the decor has changed, the friendly and easygoing atmosphere of the predecessor establishment remains. We were greeted at the door; once seated our waitress was prompt, pleasant and checked on us frequently; and the manager stopped by as he made his rounds among the various diners to inquire about our meals.

I was pleased to find they've 14 different beers available on tap; even more pleased to find that Resurrection Ale from Brewer's Art was among the selections. My friends chose a Shock Top and a Samuel Adam's summer ale.

We started off with appetizers of 'Rockfish Bites' and 'Fried Shrooms'. These arrived very quickly. The fried mushrooms were average. The breaded-and-fried rockfish bites were above average - crispy outside and juicy inside, with enough fish for all three of us to get a goodly amount and three different dipping sauces to choose from.

For our main dish, we all decided on hamburgers rather than full-on entrees. Two of us chose the $17 Kobe beef hamburger (with havarti cheese, grilled onions, and sautéed mushrooms), one of us the Angus beef burger at nearly 1/2 the price. I asked for mine medium rare and that's just the way I got it. I've never ponied up $17 for a burger before, but after we shared bites with the Angus owner we all agreed the Kobe was indeed worth the price.

For dessert, they were unfortunately out of the key lime pie. Our waitress recommended the cheesecake as Plan B, which arrived in the form of a heated pastry (actually two pastries, piled atop one another with caramel) rather than a slice. It was delicious.

Overall we had an excellent dining experience. We plan to return again soon and check out both the full entrees and their wine selection. Hopefully once the weather turns cooler, we can take advantage of their outdoor patio seating.

When a restaurant is called Lures Bar and Grille, it’s not a surprise to find seafood on the menu, beer on tap, and a burger or two listed among the sandwiches. But what you probably don’t expect is that the seafood is never frozen, the variety of beers on tap numbers fourteen, and the burger in question is made from Kobe beef. Not only that, but among the menu’s crab cakes and blackened tuna steaks are Polish pirogies, a nod to owner Chuck Soja’s Polish grandmother. It’s these quirky and unmistakably personal choices that elevate Lures above your local neighborhood bar and grill.

Soja, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Jill, spent fourteen years working for the T.G.I. Friday’s chain, and his determination to put his own stamp on casual dining is obvious. Nothing about Lures bears a resemblance to Friday’s—from the ever-changing beer list featuring local and national microbrews to the nautical memorabilia scattered throughout.
